Do I need DOS???

Well this, I believe is XP's fault, hence the XP problem section. Anyways, I have an .exe file I opened to extract obviously, and the only thing it did was pop up a command promt for like 2 seconds, then close it.
And the other odd thing, is inside of the program the file type icon is a DOS prompt. The thing is, I have no idea why XP wouldn't either just unextract it, or use command prompt if it needed help.
All my computer specs:
Windows XP: home
P-4 2.8ghz- 533mhz FSB
Nvidia GeForce 4-128mb
120gb 7200rpm hard disk
256mb 333mhz(pc2700?) ram
The rest is pretty much integrated..
It's a Dell too, I'm sorry to say.. Despite their butchering of things, I needed payment plans, heh...

Also, if there is a quick fix for this problem, could you tell me how to run the program as well after I update(?) XP. The file is a game that is xp compatible (apparently the file isn't however)

Edit: I went into the properties so the command prompt didn't automatically close and it said "Program is too big to fit in memory" ... I'm not really the brightest person on things of this particular nature... soooo, what is it???

might help if you post the name of the program or what it is supposed to be, someone may have the same thing and be able to see what you are talking about.

I actually got it fixed, apparently it was an ISO file and not an EXE file, but XP read it as an EXE file... dev-nsua.exe btw.

you know there is a program called iso buster, they used to have a free version, i think they still do. it opens alot of odd file types, not just iso. you posted the file extension was a exe, i didnt think about a iso file. there are so many file types it is hard to keep up with all of them and what opens them. i hate to see a post go un-answered so i will usually ask a few questions to get the ball rolling. glad you got it.
