disable "4-square" image preview on folder icon

when a folder contains images or video clips, the thumbnail version of that folder will show a tiny 4-square preview of the first four images in that folder. how do I turn this off system-wide? I just want to see a normal folder thumbnail, as if the folder contained documents or other folders. this has been a source of frustration for me for years and I would be amazed if I could turn it off easily. extensive forum and google searches have turned up nothing. I'm a very strong xp user and I'm comfortable editing my registry; I'm asuming this might be a reg setting.

i am almost sure this is a feature of tweak UI one of microsoft's power toys availible for download on their site. i dont have it on the machine i am at so a cant double check to make sure.

thanks for the idea! unfortunately, it isn't an option in tweakUI. I've also tried two other windows tweaker programs (the names of which I can't remember) with no luck. of course, if someone knows of a tweaker that will fix this, by all means I'll use it.

I think this will call for a direct registry change.
