Computer Crash While Installing Xp?

I was wondering if anyone could decipher this for me? It came on a blue screen crash I got while trying to install XP Professional. By the way, I only get this while Installing Professional. My Home Edition installs fine.

STOP: 0x00000026 (0x000401FA, 0xF73C8344, 0xF73C8044, 0xF798F07F)

CLASSPNP.SYS - Address F798F07F base at F798E000, DateStamp 3b7dc5af

Hope I wrote this correctly.

I'm running a P4 (not certain on motherboard, but it's 2.4 Ghz), and I have a Gig of ram in it. I can get more info on my system, but I'm actually on an apple at work at the current time.

I often get crashes for no apparent reason when using home edition, but I'm wondering if this problem is hardware related. I borrowed a friends edition of Professional to see if it would run better on my system than my Home edition so maybe there's something wrong with his CD, but it loads on his laptop fine.

Thanks,

I'll get more info when I get home from work if it's needed

It could be a number of things, you will have to go through different checks to find the problem.

You any have faulty ram so i take it you have 2x 512 ? So try running xp home on 1 stick see how it is if all is fine then swap the sticks and do the same.

Have you got cooling in the system? as heat can cause a crash or lock ups.

I have dug about and one i came close to found it to be a motherboard issue. But i am not saying this si what is causing your problem.

Seems like you are prepared to do an install again. My advice is get a win 98 bootdisc www.bootdisc.com Do a format of your hard drive then reinstall, it may well work great doing it this way.

Check this out it may well help you understand the error messages you get

Hi mate. I sometimes get this message. If I do then all I do is run setup agian and select a Full Format and not a Quick Format. That seems to do the trick.
