Cant Copy to CD w/o Roxio

I tried to copy a .doc to my cd drive with a clean cd, but it did not let me telling me that "D: Not Accessible Incorrect Function".
But I can copy it from my Roxio program. Is there anything I can do to just bypass the Roxio program and when I hit save to save the .doc, it will save it on my cd?

go to start>run>type
services.msc
scroll down and find IMAPI cd burning, right click it, select properties, make sure the startup type is manual or automatic. if it disabled the on-board wont work.
some drives(mainly cheap ones) only detect and burn with the software that comes with them, not sure if you have a cheap drive but but if your on-board is already on manual.......
