What is Optical Mouse?
The Optical mouse employs a camera or optical sensor to constantly take images of the surface beneath the mouse. Any changes in the surface is detected and the differences in the x and y positions compared to the previously recorded image is transmitted to the OS. A dedicated light emitting diode (LED) is used to illuminate the surface to make detection easier. Since the camera scans the surface for changes, it’s task is made difficult if the surface is devoid of any distinguishing pattern or is highly reflective.
