What is Infrared?
Infrared is a region of the electromagnetic spectrum whose frequency is longer than that of visible light. Infrared is used in portable devices as a means of transferring data wirelessly. This might seem like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but has several disadvantages— it is line-of-sight (the two devices may not be separated by obstacles like walls), has a low data transfer rate, and is shorterranged. Some mobile phones as well as wireless keyboard and mice used to come with infrared ports; these have been replaced with Bluetooth and / or Wi-Fi.
