What is DNS?
Domain Name System or Domain Name Service. Every domain name on the Internet has an associated IP address. The link between the IP address and the domain name is managed by the domain registry service at the InterNic, a global organisation. When a user types in a domain name—say google.com—what happens is that a query is sent to the Domain Registry asking for the IP address of google.com. This query and its resolution are handled by the DNS.
