Memory Performance Tweak

management -at least 512MB of ram recommended

go to start\run\regedit -and then to the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

1.DisablePagingExecutive -double click it and in the decimal put a 1 - this allows XP to keep data in memory now instead of paging sections of ram to harddrive yeilds faster performance.

2.LargeSystemCache- double click it and change the decimal to 1 -this allows XP Kernel to Run in memory improves system performance alot

Reboot and watch your system fly ..happy tweakin

    Very userful tip. I noted a big difference. Almost no more swap (laptop centrino 1.5GHz, 1Gb ddr)

    512 mb not recommanded but necessary if you don't want your computer to crash !!! On my laptop with 1gb ram, no problem... On my friends computers (512mb) all have crashed.

    Worked fine for me and i got 512 mb ram. Didnīt notice any big diffrence though

    performance increase noticed, 1gb dual channel golden dragon pc3500. You need good quality memory for this rweak to work!!!!

    Corsair 1Gb DDR matched pair pc3200 here and it definately improved my speed also.Thanx

    1 One GB of PC2100 pentium 4 2.4 Gig. The tweak didn't crash my computer at all , However I didn't notice any increase in performance.

    This tweak will not work with most ATI cards. On all other systems with at least 512 mb of ram this should work.

    Totally Bullshit. It Works with every RAM Size and Quality. If u cant work in the registry dont do that. If u have 1Gig u dont need a Swapfile or a pagefile. Thumbs up about 10

    Well, I've got 512MB, but after reboot I haven't noticed much difference in performance. Nor comp haven't crashed.

    i had to use a system restore after using this "tweak." i have winXP, 1GB RAM, ati 1950PRO-256MB card. nice...

    Worked beautifully for me. For anyone whose system crashed...he said "decimal", not hex. Two different things. If you put it in the hex you're going to have problems. Read instructions before bitching that something doesn't work.

    Comment #25 is correct. According to Microsoft article 895932 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895932 this setting is for Servers, not Home Desktop PC's.

    Do not change your setting to 'LargeSystemCache', it's the same thing as selecting it in the Advanced tab of Performance Options. You know, "Adjust for best performance of Programs or System cache" You really want your system cache to take priority over your programs? It's mainly used for servers, not end-user workstations.
