Well... i changed my ip but in a different way and it was much harder ( windows xp ) this looks like a quickfix and im not sure this is going to work, the only reason im change my ip is becuase of cable companys tryign to hack me on ports 20003 etc and i thought if i report it guess what will happen... nothing so i thought id change my ip, anyway i will give this time but it probaly wont work and im going to have to try that oringal web site again <_<... so in the end im giving this a 2 becuase it hasnt got much detail to get a new ip address and on another wbe site it is much more detailed on how to change it ( not for the newbie ;) ) and i managed to ... so the difference to this web site and the other one i visited , the one i visited before worked.. so in the end im giving this a 2 becuase of it slack of detail and doesnt work... waste of time dont try.

Ok i have to post this again then... first off i jus tmessaged a post but it came up as " becuase its short and accurate " or it was a consirdence that i manage to click on it and someone else did at the exact same time... anyway im here to complain about the ip renew and release ( vise versa ), im here to say that this information is a waste of time and should be changed asap but a real programmign or expirence person who knows what they talking about. This looks like a quick fix answer and is very undetailed let alone it doesnt work ( given it time but very bad in hope... ) adn hopefully this gets changed becuase it doesnt do anything just changes it back to the oringal ip which is what we dont want ;). Btw, for other information im running a windows xp home edition and even if you do message back i wont be able to see it becuase my msn ddoesnt load up into the message box just a common 404 error :@. So, noreply@noreply.com ;) just fix this problem so rela people can release and renew the ip for REAL not wasting their time, i hope i have pointed this out and will be fixed asap. Thanks for reading ( p.s fake name btw sorry ;) )

This doesn't give you a new IP address. How do you do it without restarting your computer/modem?

  • Comment #10 (Posted by Koen)
    Rating
IF this doesn't give you a new IP its might be because of your ISP's DHCP that keeps your MAC adress in its tables for a certain amount of time. Try changing your MAC adress and after it changed change it back to the default MAC. Then the ip should be different for sure.

btw , changing an ip to stop a hacking attempt (IF it is a real hacking attempt) is just plain stupid. This is just avoiding the problem instead of solving it. Secure your servers!!! thats the solution..

this is changing your ip adres before the lease time has expired .. but when the DHCP server provides youy the same adress, it's not going do change ... maybe you have to change your mac adres of your nic, or just stop hacking... ;)

changing MAC adress? Th MAC is unique... Stop bugging the author, it works! The reason for the people who don't get a NEW fucking IP is because their connection is static

This does not work on a static I.P. If you want to change your I.P., unplug your power and cable from your modem and let it sit for at least 24 hours. This worked for me.

very helpful thanks, i am trying to get around a belking router firewall on my home network. Do you know of any way i can do this. My dad has placed this on here so i cany use msn after 9:00 this is a pain. He is using the client exception filters to opperate this. It currently blocks my laptop wuth ip addresses 192.168.2.4 and my desktop with ip address 192.168.2.3 This is the ip assined by the router i belive. If i log on with a third device before i do so with either my laptop or desktop will this alow me past the vlient filters on those ip addresses?

Okay, my computer got keylogged somehow.. and the keylogger got my msn email. When I asked him how he did that he said through my IP adrress because i had gone on his site...and now he has my IP adrress and i don't know what to do... I've been searching the internet on how to change my IP but none of these sites have helped. The whole " renew release " thing just sets ur IP to 0.0.0 and wen u renew it, it sets it back to what it was before you released it. ANYBODY HELP?!?!!

QUESTION: How do I release and renew an IP address? ANSWER: Follow the appropriate platform-specific instructions below to release and renew your IP address. Windows 2000/XP: We recommend using one of two methods to release and renew your IP address: ENABLE/DISABLE THE CONNECTION: Go to the Control Panel, then open Network Connections. (If you're not in Classic view, open Network and Internet Connections, then Network Connections from there.) Under LAN and High-Speed Internet, there should be one or more items called Local Area Connection. If there are more than one, use the one in which the computer monitor icon is blue instead of gray. Right-click on the icon and choose Disable. Wait for a few seconds for the connection to disable complete, then right-click on it again choose Enable. Once the connection is completely enabled, the IP address should have been successfully renewed. enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

instead of posting whiny comments, go back to dial-up or learn the diff between dynamic and static ip addresses. Release/renew works for whats its supposed to do and isn't the root cause of most of the crap posted here.

If it doesn't change your I.P. address. If you have a router it is just changing the computers I.P. not the router, as this has it's own I.P. address, so websites can't detect your computer's one and attackit.
