DSL WinXP and PPPoE

Using PPPoE and Windows XP, you may notice a slight hang after startup when you try to initiate a PPPoE connection. This is due to Windows XP trying to get an IP for your NIC. To avoid this:

Goto Network Properties
Select your LAN NIC
Manually set the IP address
This won't affect your DSL connection, and will remove this annoying 30-120 second wait.

Hope this helps.

Terrible idea. Yor ISP provides you the IP address via an available pool. When the ISP adjusts the pool, you may find yourself unable to connect.
