Rename Recycle Bin

Rename Recycle Bin

Open up your favorite plain text editor (notepad, for example) and copy the

following text into a new file:

 REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder]
"Attributes"=hex:50,01,00,20

"CallForAttributes"=dword:00000000

Now save this text file as a .reg file, such as "Rename Recycle Bin.reg" and

put it wherever you like. Double click on the file, and when it asks you if

you want to import it into the registry, choose Yes. You'll notice a new

option in the right-click menu to Rename the Recycle Bin. You can also

rename it by highlighing the Bin and hitting F2, or by highlighting it and

clicking on the file name (just like renaming any other file.

If you want to turn off this new feature, make another .reg file with the

same content as above, but change the first number in the "Attributes"=hex:

line from 50 to 40 and import that file into the registry.

    found lots of different ways to rename recycle bin. one had me go deep into the registry, and when applied did not work. others required software like tweakUI. this one required a simple copy/pase and worked as advertised.

    Just remember, to rename the .txt file to a .reg file you have to go into "folder options" in the control panel and unclick on "hide extensions for known file types". Then you can change the .txt to a .reg file. Thanks for this quick fix, it was easy to use!

    Extremely easy to do. Works on all systems. Just make sure you save it with the quotes (i.e. "RenameRecycle.reg") or choose save as type as All Files and save without the quotes. You have to be an idiot if you cannot get this to work.

    It's so simple, a six-month-old monkey could do it, and it works perfectly on XP sp2 when I used common sense and saved the file as "all files" to prevent Notepad from adding the .txt extension. I wonder if it will work on Vista.

    On some versions of Xp you have to use "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" instead of "REGEDIT4" when you save it and it will work ie .. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}ShellFolder] "Attributes"=hex:50,01,00,20 "CallForAttributes"=dword:00000000 and do the rest and it works on some other XP computers
