Administrator Account Password in XP Home

In XP Home Edition the admin account is only accessible from SafeMode. This accounts password is by default BLANK....yeah thats correct there is no password. Gee...PATHETIC.

To ensure a more secure system.

1. Turn off your computer.
2.Power on and hit F8 just after the BIOS check is complete. Select Safe Mode from the List. Its around the top of the list.
3.On the next page press ENTER.
4.Work you way to the Desktop. Goto Control panel...by:
*Clicking on Start\settings\ControlPanel
5.Double Click on Users Accounts
6.Select the Administrators Account from the list.
7.Apply a password.

Then restart the system.

    To Kathleen, Sounds to me that xp is not cleaning your hard drive off. Try a program from your h/drive manufacturers site to clean off e.g. Seagate---Seatools.After it finishes turn off computer and unplug from wall. Have a cupper. Then reinstall xp. You could try another cd drive if you have one as if the one you are using is dying it may miss some files. Hope this is of some help to you.

    If I don't have the admin password, I can't log in to the control panel! Hence the instructions are moot!

    Because my computer will NOT accept BLANK as the password.And there is NO link to remove password. :( I have so much going on here it's annoying and I've already cleaned and reinstalled EVERYTHING aprox. 8 times already this year. Microsoft is getting annoyed at giving me new info to reinstall my windows xp. Sorry but it didn't help me at all. And when I go into the password section of security. It's blamk nothing there. And all my important windows like device manager and system security and registry windows are all empty. It's getting really annoying. Any help to fix I would greatly appreciate. I just don't want to reinstall windows again. It takes all day and I need my computer for work and I don't have enough discs or anything to save ALL that is on this computer for work purposes. My email is kiss.my.ass.xx@gmail.com I would greatly appreciate any help. I found I had a hacker in my system not long ago and I'm wondering if they did something. Any help at all would be greatful. Thanks. Kathleen

    if current account is an admin account, then you can change "administrator" account's password by using command console. net user Administrator {your password}
